A man escaped unharmed today from a residential fire at a southern Jefferson County townhome complex.
The fire started about 11:45 a.m. at 9461 W. Chatfield Ave., said Michelle French, a West Metro Fire Protection District spokeswoman.
The man who escaped the fire was the only person home at the time the fire broke out, French said.
No firefighters were injured. A pet, a cat named Bash, died in the fire.
The unit where the fire broke out was heavily damaged. Other units in the six-unit building sustained some smoke and water damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
