Employee-owned engineering company Merrick & Co. said Friday that it will move its headquarters as early as this fall from Aurora to Greenwood Village.

Currently located near South Peoria Street and East Iliff Avenue, Merrick plans to move to One Greenwood Corporate Center, 5970 Greenwood Plaza Blvd., near Interstate 25 and East Orchard Road.

About 300 employees will make the transition to the new building, which will provide about 103,000 square feet. The current building has about 80,000 square feet.

“Moving to another location was not taken lightly,” chief executive Ralph Christie Jr. said in a statement. “This new facility fits our organizational needs and long-term growth goals.”

Merrick is a $120 million engineering, architecture, design-build, surveying and geospatial solutions firm. It serves U.S. and international clients in the national security, energy, life sciences and sustainable infrastructure markets.

Company spokeswoman Erinn Harkness said the decision was difficult. Deciding factors were room to grow, proximity to the Regional Transportation District’s light-rail station and the fact that the building will be LEED-certified.

Merrick was founded in 1955 in Colorado. It has offices in Colorado Springs, five other states, Canada and Mexico.
