Wyoming begins spring football drills Wednesday with the first of 15 practices. The Cowboys have scheduled three scrimmages — April 4 at 3:30 p.m., April 11 at 3:30 p.m. and the spring game on April 21 at 2 p.m. All of the scrimmages will be open to the public. However, all other spring practices will be closed.

CU golfers take early lead. The University of Colorado women’s golf team finished Friday’s first round in first place at 11-under-par 277 in the Notre Dame Clover Cup at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. The host Irish are second at 288. The Buffs’ Emily Talley shot a 6-under 66 and leads the individual standings, two strokes ahead of teammate Alex Stewart.

Hoopsters honored. Metro State’s Reggie Evans and Colorado Mines’ Brett Green were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II All-District Central Region team. Metro’s Jonathan Morse, Mines’ Dale Minschwaner and Fort Lewis’ Matt Morris were second-team picks. Mines coach Pryor Orser is the region coach of the year.
