Chucky Jeffery had 19 points and 17 rebounds as Colorado kept its season alive with a 48-47 win over Villanova on Thursday night at Coors Events Center in the third round of the Women’s NIT.

Villanova (19-15) had the ball for the final shot, but Devon Kane’s spinning layup from the left side was off the mark. Jeffery grabbed the rebound as the clock ran out.

The Buffs (21-13) will go to the WNIT quarterfinals for the second straight year. CU will visit former Big 12 rival Oklahoma State on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

• Colorado Mines junior guard Brett Green was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-America team.

Also, Mines head coach Pryor Orser is one of 10 finalists for the Clarence “Big House” Gaines Division II national coach of the year award after leading the Orediggers to a school-record 29 wins.

The Orediggers are looking for a new women’s coach after Paula Krueger turned in her resignation after nine years at the helm.

Rapids release Emory.  The Rapids released Steven Emory, a midfielder who was a first-team All-American for Metro State in 2010. He was twice named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference player of the year. He also played at Fort Collins High School and for the Colorado Rush. He made the Rapids’ roster as an invited trial player during the 2011 preseason. He played in one game, a U.S. Open Cup match last March.

Josh Scott state’s player of the year. Josh Scott of Lewis-Palmer High School was named the Gatorade Colorado player of the year after leading the Rangers to the Class 4A championship.
