These storage drives are becoming more common in laptops, appearing standard in Windows-based ultrabooks and Apple’s MacBook Airs. Unlike typical desktop hard drives, SSDs contain no moving parts and provide faster access to stored content. A computer with its operating system installed on an SSD will boot up and wake up from sleep much faster than one with a standard hard drive. But solid state drives are also more expensive, a reason laptops such as MacBook Airs carry higher price tags even though they offer smaller storage capabilities than traditional laptops.
