FRISCO — A Fort Carson soldier
died Saturday in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, after he was injured when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device, the Department of Defense said Monday.
Sgt. Daniel J. Brown, 27, of Jerome, Idaho, was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson.
He had been deployed in Afghanistan since May 2011 and had served a deployment in Iraq from March 4, 2005, to Feb. 19, 2006.
The Defense Department said he was a decorated serviceman, having received numerous medals and ribbons. Brown’s family requested privacy but issued a statement through the Idaho National Guard, saying that Brown felt called to join the Army after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and that he was known for putting others before himself and leading by example.
Brown is survived by his wife, Jordan Brown, and their 3-month-old twin daughters.
