DENVER—Preliminary results show a proposal to ban plastic grocery bags in Basalt has failed.
The Aspen Times reports () preliminary totals Tuesdays showed 401 people voted against it, while 363 voted for it.
The Colorado Municipal League says Basalt was among at least 144 communities across Colorado holding elections this week on everything from tax increases and marijuana to plastic bags.
Buena Vista was considering a $3 million sales tax revenue bond for street fixes. DeBeque, Erie, Montrose, and Winter Park were among the places considering tax increases or extensions.
Crawford, Fruita and Lyons were voting on banning the sale of medical marijuana products.
Basalt and Carbondale considered bans on plastic shopping bags. Ault was deciding whether to allow hens in residential neighborhoods.
