Denver’s Deputy Manager of Safety has fired Cheryl Arabalo, a Denver Sheriff’s Department captain who about it.
Arabalo was terminated for conduct prejudicial within the past two weeks. Deputy safety manager Ashley Kilroy said in a statement that Arabalo breached the confidentiality of an internal investigation by sending a Facebook message containing information about it to a deputy. She also asked that her message be passed to others.
Martinez also found that Arabalo mishandled finances of the Denver Sheriffs Foundation.
In a federal lawsuit against the department, Arabalo alleged the sexual assault occurred Oct. 11, 2009, and that when she reported it to a superior, he told her not to say anything about it and never reported her allegation to administrators.
This article has been corrected in this online archive. Ashley Kilroy is Deputy Manager of Safety.
