BRIGHTON, Colo.—A Colorado Department of Corrections parole board has denied parole for a man convicted of killing another man during a 2009 road rage shooting.

Travis Smith was convicted of negligent homicide because jurors did not believe he intentionally killed 21-year-old Justin Maggard of Broomfield. Smith said he did not know the gun was loaded and he only fired to scare Maggard.

According to KMGH-TV (), Maggard’s mother fought Smith’s early release on his six-year prison sentence.
