DURANGO, Colo.—A judge has issued a gag order in the first-degree murder case against a New Mexico teen suspected in the shooting death of a man on Colorado’s Southern Ute Indian Reservation.
The Durango Herald ( ) reports the order was issued Friday, and an arrest affidavit that details the allegations against 18-year-old Elijah Timothy Anglin remains sealed.
Anglin, of Farmington, N.M., was arrested Wednesday night, and deputies are still looking for 19-year-old Tomy Lee Mitchell, also of Farmington. They’re suspected in the slaying of 39-year-old Joey Benavidez on Tuesday.
Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Dan Bender says authorities found Anglin that night and he told them he had given a hitchhiker a ride to Benavidez’s home and witnessed the shooting. He said later information indicated Anglin was involved in the shooting.
