FRUITA, Colo.—A Fruita police officer could lose his job if he wins election to the Colorado Legislature.
Jared Wright, a Republican nominee for the House in this year’s elections, could be out of a job when the Legislature convenes next year if he wins his race.
According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel ( ), Fruita Mayor Ken Henry is trying to find a way for Wright to keep both jobs. Colorado has a part-time legislature that only meets four months a year and most lawmakers have other jobs.
Fruita’s employee handbook requires an employee to take an unpaid leave of absence if there is a potential conflict of interest.
