Against powerhouse teams in the national polls this season, the Denver lacrosse team is outscoring opponents 61-43. It’s a resounding advantage, but the Pioneers are 2-3 in those games.

One of the three losses
was in triple overtime and another in overtime, and all three were by one goal. The victories were lopsided.

That’s the backdrop for Saturday’s already sold-out game at Peter Barton Stadium in Denver, where the No. 8 Pioneers (7-3) host No. 4 Loyola (Md.) (10-0) at 7 p.m.

After three consecutive victories against unranked league foes, DU coach Bill Tierney is looking forward to the Greyhounds.

“We got through the three games I was worried about,” Tierney said.

“Now the tough ones we have coming up will be a little easier, because I know the players and the coaches will be focused.”
