BOULDER, Colo.—A committee exploring the future of journalism education at the University of Colorado’s campus in Boulder has proposed creating a new College of Media, Design and the Arts.

Provost Russell Moore said Tuesday the CU committee’s recommendation will serve as the basis for more discussions on where to head next, following the regents’ decision last year to discontinue the university’s journalism school amid a changing media landscape. Moore is expected to make a recommendation to the CU administration later.

The committee recommends that the new college have an interdisciplinary mission incorporating journalism and mass communication, communication, social media, film, music, theater, dance, art, art history, and experimental digital arts and technology. It also recommends creating a companion institute dedicated to projects to develop information communication technology.
