ASPEN, Colo.—Authorities say a Basalt teenager has confessed to hatching a plan to beat an acquaintance, tie him up and leave him to starve to death in the woods.
Basalt Police Sgt. Stu Curry tells The Aspen Daily News ( ) the 15-year-old suspect was arrested Friday on an unrelated probation issue and could face a charge of conspiracy to commit murder. Charges against three other boys are pending.
Curry says the main suspect drew diagrams, including one depicting a “hit spot,” and the group intended to ambush the potential victim with guns and baseball bats. The group is accused of planning to duct-tape the victim and to take him into the woods to starve to death.
Police say the friction between the main suspect and the potential victim involved drug dealing and a relationship with a girl.
