DALLAS—The Dallas school board has hired the chief administrator of a Colorado school district as the new superintendent’s position.
The board voted 8-0 Thursday to sign Mike Miles to a three-year contract at a salary of $300,000 per year. The 55-year-old West Point graduate will take control of the nation’s 14th largest school district July 1. However, a district statement says Miles will begin immediately as interim superintendent for $1,000 per day for up to 15 days.
Miles has been superintendent since 2006 of the Harrison School District No. 2, which includes southern suburbs of Colorado Springs, Colo. The former U.S. Army Ranger is a former Soviet policy analyst with the State Department and former U.S. diplomat in Moscow and Warsaw.
Miles succeeds Michael Hinojosa, who resigned in June.
