The nation’s largest wireless carrier and cable-TV provider announced Monday that they will resell each other’s services along the Front Range.

As part of the partnership, Verizon Wireless and Comcast rolled out incentives that will be available to both new and existing customers. Among the offers is a gift card of up to $300 for those who subscribe to Comcast’s triple play of video, Internet and VoIP services, as well as Verizon’s wireless service.

“Our goal from this is really to expand the consumer choice — the options that customers have when they’re seeking to bundle their in-home experiences,” said Cathy Avgiris, an executive vice president for Comcast.

But the bundle of Comcast and Verizon services will not come with the convenience of a single bill.

“Over time, if that makes sense for customers, we can entertain it, but that’s not how we’re introducing the services today,” Avgiris said.

The jury is still out on whether the teaming of two service giants will be beneficial or harmful for consumers. Opponents fear it could lead to less competition and higher prices. Comcast once flirted with offering a branded wireless service. Verizon offers its own pay-TV service in some markets, but not in Colorado. Andy Vuong, The Denver Post
