BRIGHTON, Colo.—The former owner of a paving company accused of billing Adams County for road work it didn’t perform has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
Former Quality Paving and Quality Resurfacing owner Jerry Rhea was sentenced Monday. He was convicted in February of 23 felony counts, including theft and attempting to influence a public official.
The charges stemmed from an investigation into company contracts with Adams County in 2007. Prosecutors say there were discrepancies between what work was completed and what was billed to Adams County.
Another former Quality Paving executive has been convicted of theft-related felonies, a former employee has pleaded guilty to theft, and two former Adams County employees have pleaded guilty to various charges.
One more person is awaiting a trial set for September.
