A man fatally shot his wife in the bedroom of their Adams County home early this morning before fatally shooting himself, authorities said.

The incident happened about 3:50 a.m. at 3310 W. 66th Ave., said Sgt. Terrance O’Neill, an Adams County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

The couple had an argument prior to the initial shooting, O’Neill said.

A family member heard a gunshot, found the woman in a bedroom of the apartment and called 911 for help.

When deputies arrived they found the woman dead.

A short time later the body of the man was found in a nearby shed, O’Neill said.

The couple lived in the apartment with eight other family members, most of whom were sleeping at the start of the incident.

The names of the couple — a 39-year-old woman and 47-year-old man — were not released.

Family members, ranging in age from 3 to 24, inside the apartment at the time were indirect witnesses, O’Neill said. Some heard the commotion, but investigators don’t believe there was a direct eyewitness to either shooting death.
