COLORADO SPRINGS – — Colorado Springs has earned an “A” for “small business friendliness” in a national survey of small business environments.
The survey by Thumbtack.com, done in partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, encompassed more than 6,000 small business owners nationwide to determine the best and worst cities and states for small businesses. (Go here to learn more about the survey’s methodology.)
In addition to an overall grade, cities and states were graded in several categories. The Springs received an “A+” for “ease of starting a business” and for overall regulatory friendliness. It received a “D” for networking programs, though, and an “F” for hiring costs.
Those costs, which are in addition to an employee’s salary, can include things such as extra filing fees, unemployment taxes and health care costs, said Sander Daniels, co-founder and director of business development for Thumbtack.com.
