The Westminster Fire Department is investigating the cause of a house fire that started late Tuesday night.

Around 11:46 p.m., a Westminster police officer spotted the structure fire in the 7700 block of King Street and called it in to dispatch, according to a news release from the Westminster Fire Department.

The man and woman who live at the home evacuated before firefighters arrived.

The woman reported waking up to a crackling noise and seeing a “wall of orange” when she glanced out the back window. She woke her husband and the two ran out of the home.

No injuries were reported.

Fire crews arrived within 10 minutes and began battling the fire. The fire was completely extinguished around 1:27 a.m. The Southwest Adams County and Federal Heights fire departments also assisted.

The fire appears to have started on the covered deck on the back of the home, which runs the length of the three-story home. The fire moved from the roof of the deck and spread into the walls and attic of the home.

A cost estimate of the damage was not available. There is extensive fire, smoke and water damage to the home.

The residents were given $1,000 from the Westminster Firefighters Fire Victims Benefit Fund.
