GREELEY — Seven confirmed cases of whooping cough at University Middle School, including one teacher, have forced administrators to notify parents of unvaccinated students that their kids won’t be allowed back at school until health officials have cleared the school of all cases or until parents can prove that they have been vaccinated.

School officials sent home three separate letters on Wednesday explaining the situation to middle school students. In a separate letter to middle school track athletes, where officials have determined the original infection originated, officials said all middle school track athletes must make an appointment with their doctor.

If they are symptomatic, they are not allowed back at school until they have had five days of treatment, the letter said. Athletes who are not symptomatic may attend school but must be put on preventive medication, the letter said.
