Ascent Solar Technologies Inc. of Thornton today was named a development partner for Bye Aerospace Inc’s aircraft programs.
Ascent is a developer of thin-film photovoltaic modules with flexible materials. Solar energy is a key component to several of Bye Aerospace’s programs. The Centennial Airport-based company is working on a new generation of unmanned aerial vehicles.
Leaders of both companies said the partnership will improve their development efforts.
“One concept currently in development — the Silent Guardian unmanned aerial vehicle — relies on thin-film solar photovoltaics, stored electric power and other technologies to enhance its potential for long endurance, quiet operations and low emissions,” said George Bye, chairman and chief executive officer of Bye Aerospace.
Victor Lee, president and chief executive of Ascent Solar, said, “Ascent Solar’s transformational technology enables renewable power generation in aircraft applications while adding minimal weight to the vehicle.”
