first got on our radar with 2011’s “The Mistress,” the band’s second full-length record of quirky indie pop/rock. For a trio, Yellow Ostrich creates an appealingly complex mix of sounds with smart lyrics and inventive percussion on nearly every song. The band’s day in was a loud, hard-rocking affair from first note to last. “Marathon Runner” might be the closest thing Yellow Ostrich has to a radio-friendly single, and it should still be challenging enough to the snobbiest of listeners.
