BOULDER, Colo.—A woman who acknowledged her role in a drunken-driving crash that killed a man and seriously injured his 2-year-old daughter and his sister west of Longmont has been sentenced to 33 years in prison.
The Longmont Times-Call ( ) reports District Judge DD Mallard sentenced 33-year-old Lisa Norton on Friday. Norton pleaded guilty in March to vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular assault, leaving the scene of an accident and driving under the influence—charges stemming from the June wreck that killed 33-year-old Gabriel Nielsen of Boulder.
Prosecutors dismissed a count of first-degree murder, a rare charge in such cases. They say Norton was two days into probation on an alcohol-related driving conviction and had spent the day drinking at bars.
She fled the scene of the crash by trying to swim away in a nearby reservoir.
