DENVER—Authorities say a former Colorado high school teacher accused of having sex with a student won’t face sexual assault charges under a pending plea deal.
The Aspen Times reported Tuesday ( ) that the attorneys for 26-year-old Lauren Redfern and Eagle County District Attorney Mark Hurlbert confirmed that a plea deal is in the works.
Under the agreement, Redfern pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Her attorney says the plea is not an admission of having a sexual relationship with the student, who was 17 at the time. Redfern won’t face sexual assault charges in exchange for the plea.
A judge has to approve the plea. Redfern could face a deferred judgment and probation but not prison time.
She taught health and physical education. She resigned after the allegations.
