Memorial Day ceremonies stretch across the metro area all weekend, but the big Denver observance is today around Civic Center in downtown Denver.
The event starts at 9 a.m. with a wreath remembrance ceremony to honor fallen heroes from World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan at the Colorado Veterans Monument near the corner of East 14th Avenue and Broadway.
A parade through downtown begins at 10 a.m., stepping off at West Colfax Avenue and 14th Street.
The parade of military and veterans groups will salute fallen war heroes, veterans and families by marching or riding on cars, floats and horses. Groups marching in the parade will lay flowers at the Colorado Veterans Monument at the end.
The Veterans Memorial Day Tribute Ceremony immediately follows the parade. The names of the fallen from Iraq and Afghanistan will be read during the tribute.
