
Despite a long holiday weekend, gasoline prices in Denver continued to fall last week averaging $3.69 cents a gallon on Memorial Day, a fall of 2.5 cents per gallon in the last week.
According to the website , this compares to the national average of $3.65 cents a gallon.
“The summer driving season has officially begun with the national average falling far lower than we expected it earlier this year,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for .
“The national average has dropped to a surprising $3.65 a gallon mark as of today. It goes to show anything is possible,” said DeHaan.
GasBuddy forecast in January that the national average would peak between $3.75 and $4.15 a gallon.
The national average peaked at $3.92 a gallon on April 5, far sooner than many analysts expected, said DeHaan.
Including the change in gas prices in Denver during the past week, prices Memorial Day were 1.3 cents a gallon higher than the same day one year ago, and are 13.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.
