Notable players with local ties highlight the field for the HealthOne Colorado Women’s Open golf championship, a 54-hole event that begins today at Green Valley Ranch.

Former University of Colorado golfer Jess Wallace and Littleton’s Becca Huffer, a recent Notre Dame graduate, are among several golfers ready to make their professional debuts.

The field also includes former DU golfer Katie Kempter, who played on the LPGA Tour in 2010, and Cindy Figg-Currier, an Austin, Texas, resident who won an LPGA Tour event in 1997.

Figg-Currier finished third in the 2011 Colorado Women’s Open, two strokes behind winner Jessica Carafiello of Coral Springs, Fla. The pros will be playing for a tournament purse of $64,000. Tom Kensler, The Denver Post
