Police are investigating after a man was apparently shot and killed inside a vehicle in Aurora overnight.

The first report of shots fired came in around 11:45 p.m. late on Memorial Day near East Alameda Avenue and Ironton Street, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.

When officers got there, they found a trail of debris scattered across E. Alameda Avenue, leading them to a vehicle on an east sidewalk of S. Ironton Street, north of Alameda.

Police looked inside the locked vehicle and spotted an unresponsive man, so they broke out a window to reach him. That’s when they discovered the man had been shot.

Officers performed CPR on the victim until paramedics arrived and took over, rushing him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was not immediately identified.

Fryer said he heard sirens and police quickly arrived.

Detectives responded to the scene and say early investigation indicates the victim was parked in a parking lot of 306 S. Ironton St. They say that’s where the shooting occurred.

Investigators believe the victim then drove north to the area where officers found him. They say it’s still too early to determine a motive, but say they believe the incident was isolated.

Police do not have a description or a suspect or suspects.

Anyone with any information about this shooting is urged to call Det. Matt Ingui at 303-739-6067 or, should they wish to remain anonymous, they can call Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).
