GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Authorities say a car veered off a road in the Colorado National Monument and plunged down a nearly 60-foot embankment, seriously injuring two passengers.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports ( ) a 20-year-old woman suffered a broken back, broken neck, collapsed lung and broken ribs in the crash early Tuesday. A 25-year-old man suffered a broken neck.

Twenty-one-year-old Timothy Tyler was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault while driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving causing injury, DUI, displaying fictitious license plates and driving on a suspended license.
