DENVER—Gaylord Entertainment says it is re-examining its plans to build an $842 million hotel and convention center in the Denver suburb of Aurora after the company agreed to sell its hotel brand and the rights to manage its four existing hotels to Marriott.
The Denver Post reports ( ) Gaylord will look at ways the project could be built with a minimal financial commitment from the company.
Gaylord planned to build a 1,500-room hotel in Aurora. The Colorado Economic Development Commission had approved an $81.4 million incentive package over 30 years for the project. Gaylord had requested $153 million. Separately, Aurora agreed to provide up to $300 million in incentives.
Wendy Mitchell of the Aurora Economic Development Council says the city and Gaylord still want the project to go through.
Aurora City Councilman Bob Broom called the announcement disappointing.
