Channel 93.3’s annual Big Gig usually involves pop-punk bands of varying quality, so we’re pleased to see the booking loosen up a bit with this year’s headliners. Slick alt-pop group Silversun Pickups will be joined by Colorado electro hooligans 3OH!3, British exports the Wombats and Swedish garage rockers the Hives. Tickets for the Sept. 16 show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre are on sale at 10 a.m. today via and 10 a.m. Saturday via Ticketmaster. ($36.50-$39.95)
George Lopez doesn’t need to play small clubs, having established himself as a comedy superstar with his long-running sitcom and ill-fated but important late-night talk show. Still, he keeps returning to Denver’s Comedy Works to show loyalty to owner Wende Curtis, who helped him get his start. Lopez’s intimate shows will run July 1-3 at Comedy Works South in the Landmark development. Tickets are on sale. ($35, )
The Telluride Blues & Brews Festival recently finalized its roster and added some killer names to the already solid lineup of Phil Lesh & Friends, Gov’t Mule, the B-52s, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, MarchFourth Marching Band, Tab Benoit and others. Newly announced artists include Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Little Feat, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, Anders Osborne, Heartless Bastards, Phil Wiggins & Rev. John Wilkins, Orgone, Kelley Hunt, Pickwick, Monophonics and Big Jim Adam & John Stilwagen. Three-day passes for the Sept. 14-16 event are on sale, with single tickets available June 15. ($170, )
Yeasayer has survived long enough to establish itself as a band concerned as much with trendy tribal beats and blog buzz as crafting legitimately infectious pop tunes — albeit ones that essentially could have been penned in some hazy ’80s recording studio. The Baltimore-bred band returns for an Aug. 26 concert at the Ogden Theatre to promote its new Secretly Canadian album, “Fragrant World.” Tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($25.50, )
Is there a better place than Boulder for something called “The World Caring Conference”? We thought not. The event, featuring keynote speaker Deepak Chopra with Joan Borysenko, Don Campbell, Marilyn Krysi and Tara Sheahan, takes place July 20 at the Boulder Theater. Tickets are on sale. ($67.50, )
