GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Colorado regulators are worried about air quality as the number of evaporation ponds for oil and gas drilling continues to rise.

There are currently 22 central ponds in Colorado, and officials say they aren’t sure which chemicals are being stored.

Colorado air pollution enforcement supervisor Scott Pakefield tells the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel ( ) smaller pits located at well sites are usually exempt from regulation.
