DENVER—Metropolitan State College of Denver is considering allowing lower tuition for illegal immigrants living in Colorado.
A college spokeswoman says the proposal is being reviewed Wednesday, with a possible vote by the board of trustees Thursday.
Under the measure, Colorado high school graduates who have lived in the state for at least three years would be eligible for a rate that would be higher than in-state tuition but significantly less than the out-of-state rate illegal immigrants now pay. Students must also produce proof they are seeking legal status.
College President Stephen Jordan said Tuesday the proposal is necessary after Colorado lawmakers rejected a similar measure in April.
Twelve states, including Utah, have measures granting in-state tuition for illegal immigrants, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
