Emergency crews rescued a climber who got stuck near Boulder Falls Monday evening.

Tanner Vidulich, 18 of Superior, and a friend free-climbed about one third of the way up the canyon wall on the south side of Boulder Canyon, on Forest Service property, according to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

The two climbed up the rock wall to jump into Boulder Creek. As Vidulich and his friend were sitting on the cliff, the creek rose significantly and Vidulich became nervous about jumping into the water.

Vidulich’s friend jumped into the water while Vidulich remained on the cliff.

A passerby called 9-1-1 after reaching cell service at the bottom of the canyon.

Around 6:30 p.m. the Sugarloaf Fire Department, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, AMR Ambulance, an Open Space ranger and a Boulder County Sheriff’s deputy were called in to rescue Vidulich.

Crews evacuated Vidulich who was checked for injuries at the ambulance and released soon after.
