A nine-year-old boy was killed early this morning after he was ejected from a Ford SUV during a rollover accident in Pueblo, authorities say.

The name of the child has not been released. He was traveling with family members from their home in New Mexico.

Six other family members in the SUV received only minor injuries and were treated and released, said Sgt. Charles Bonomelli, spokesman for the Pueblo Police Department.

The child’s father was driving north on Interstate-25 at 4:48 a.m. when his car drifted off the right side of the road near Illinois Avenue, struck a light pole and rolled into a ditch.

Although several members of the same family were thrown out of the vehicle, only the 9-year-old was killed or seriously injured, Bonomelli said. The child was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

No charges or citations have been issued.

The accident remains under investigation.
