Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki left a game early Wednesday in Colorado Springs after appearing to aggravate a left groin injury.
Tulowitzki returned to Denver to be re-evaluated by doctors, but the re-injury will likely push back his return date to the Rockies.
Tulowitzki — who was playing his first game of a rehab assignment with Triple-A Colorado Springs — hit a two-run homer in his first at-bat and singled in his second trip to the plate. But he exited for a pinch runner following his last at-bat.
“It scared him,” Rockies manager Jim Tracy said. “So we took all precautions. I don’t think it’s serious, but I don’t know when he will resume his rehab or join us.”
After his line-drive single up the middle, Tulowitzki acted as if he was going to tag-up from first base on a long fly ball to center field. He ran a few steps, but when he returned to the base, he removed himself from the game in the third inning.
He talked briefly with the Sky Sox trainer in the dugout, then exited to the clubhouse.
The , a mark he didn’t reach.
He had hoped to join the Rockies either Sunday in Detroit or Tuesday in Philadelphia, during an upcoming road trip.
The question now is whether this is a slight set-back or if he’s returned to square one with his injury.
