The trucking industry is expected to have an increasingly acute shortage of drivers in 2012 and 2013. One industry study suggests about 135,000 drivers will be needed. Even with high unemployment rates, motor carriers are expecting a surge in the number of driving jobs available as freight picks up.

Denver’s premier trucking job fair and free barbecue is held to help meet this demand. On Tuesday, June 26, 14 of the nation’s top trucking companies, such as Werner, Pride, May, Swift and Knight, will provide information to those interested in a trucking career. These carriers are hiring immediately.

The job fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at SAGE Truck Driving School in Henderson. “If you are unemployed, want to earn more money, or just want an exciting new direction in life, this job fair can be the answer,” says Bonnie Babcock, school director at SAGE. Both experienced drivers with a CDL and those needing training to get their CDL are invited.

SAGE Truck Driving School provides training for those with no experience so they can enter this fast-growing, high-paying field. SAGE graduates can earn in excess of $40,000 their first year. Most companies offer bonuses, health care and other benefits.

High pay and opportunity for career advancement have attracted many career-changers to the trucking industry. According to Babcock, “drivers rarely face layoffs. That’s why trucking is rated one of America’s best middle-class jobs.”

Veterans are in high demand and VA benefits may cover the costs of training. “We see a huge interest from employers in hiring qualified veterans, and SAGE specializes in helping prior military with job placement,” says Babcock.

SAGE highlights for new drivers include: a free CDL pre-trip course; loans, grants and financial aid; Class A or Class B options; one students per truck driving instruction; job-placement assistance; evening classes, industry-leading training standards; no training contracts with any carrier; and CDL testing.

SAGE is located at 10401 E. 102nd Ave., Henderson, CO 80640. For more information, call 303-289-7243, toll free at 800-867-9856, or go to www.sageschools.com.
