Longmont-based DigitalGlobe announced today that the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency plans to to exercise DigitalGlobe’s EnhancedView contract for option year three.

The contract begins on Sept. 1 and continues through Aug. 31, 2013 .

“We are delighted that NGA has recognized our focus on delivering performance and value,” said Jeffrey R. Tarr, president and chief executive of DigitalGlobe. “We remain fully committed to continuing to meet and exceed NGA’s exacting mission requirement.”

In May, DigitalGlobe rejected an unsolicited acquisition proposal from GeoEye, Inc.

GeoEye, which is based in Herndon, Va., announced that it had made a $792.3 million offer it termed a “friendly transaction.”

But Tarr had termed GeoEye’s offer a “hostile bid.”

Both companies receive 60 percent of their annual revenue from the federal government, primarily NGA.

DigitalGlobe uses satellites to provide support and a wide varitey of services to defense, intelligence and civil agencies.

The images are used for things like oil and gas exploration, and infrastructure management.
