The Avalanche will host the St. Louis Blues on opening night next season. It will close things against the Detroit Red Wings.
The NHL announced its 2012-13 schedule today, and Colorado kicks things off on a Thursday — Oct. 11.
Among the highlights:
• A pair of visits (Dec. 2 and April 7) from the Los Angeles Kings, the reigning Stanley Cup champion. Eastern Conference champion New Jersey also comes on Feb. 28.
• Every Original Six team will make a visit to the Pepsi Center. Chicago will be here Nov. 7 and March 14, while Montreal (Nov. 17) and Toronto (Nov. 21) come in back-to-back games. The New York Rangers come to town on Jan. 19, Boston is here Feb. 4, and, in addition to the April 13 finale, Detroit also has a March 24 date at the Pepsi Center.
• The Avs will play six games each (three home, three away) against Northwest Division foes, and 64 against the Western Conference.
• The longest homestand (March 14-24) and road trip (Dec. 4-13) are each five games.
• The Avalanche will also play seven preseason games — three at home, two on the road, and twice at neutral sites (Las Vegas and Kansas City).
