Visual art: Museo de las Americas’ masks

Through Sept. 23. The Museo de las Americas kicks off its summer offerings this weekend with “Cara a Cara,” an in-depth and intriguing exhibit of masks assembled from some of the country’s most serious collectors of folk art. Curated by the museum’s own Maruca Salazar, the show explores the ways masks are used in traditional ceremonies across cultures, freeing their wearers from their human identities and allowing them to “externalize the inner mind.” As a group they are funny, scary, emotional and very colorful. 861 Santa Fe Drive. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday; noon-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. $5 adults, $3 students/seniors. Under 13 free. 303-571-4401 or .
