 Denver broke a long-standing record for heat on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The temperature hit 99 degrees at 1:04 p.m., breaking the old record of 98 set in 1874, according to the weather service.

The temperature has since climbed another three degrees and hit 102 degrees, the weather service reported about 3:49 p.m.

Denver’s official temperature is recorded at Denver International Airport.

The hot weather is expected to continue Saturday, and the weather service calls for a Denver high of 101 degrees. The record for Saturday — June 23 — in Denver is 102 degrees set in 1954.

The searing heat should continue into Sunday in Denver, with a forecast high of 98 degrees.
