A man was fatally shot by Broomfield police Thursday morning when he pointed a gun at officers, police said.
At about 7:20 a.m. police received a call about a “mentally distraught” resident at a home in the Aspen Creek subdivision, according to a Broomfield Police Department media release.
While heading to the home officers contacted the 21-year-old man at the intersection of Aspen Street and Durango Avenue, police said.
“The man produced a handgun and pointed it at officers,” police said. “The Officers then responded by shooting the man.”
He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The man’s identity was not released.
The incident is under investigation of the police department and the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office critical incident team.
