A woman who misled authorities as they hunted nationwide for a man accused of raping an 8-year-old girl received 60 days in jail and two years’ probation Thursday at a sentencing hearing in Denver District Court.

Sylvia Luckett, 73, was originally charged with felony accessory to a crime for lying to investigators after Bret Lee Thompson, her foster son, allegedly abducted the girl in June 2010 from a Denver alley.

Authorities also believed Luckett gave Thompson money and a vehicle to flee the state after he allegedly dumped the girl at a gas station.

Luckett instead pleaded guilty to misdemeanor perjury June 1.

Thompson, 28, has pleaded not guilty to felony counts of kidnapping and sexual assault on a child. He remains in custody with bail set at $1 million.

He was found in asleep in his van behind a New Jersey store 11 days later.

After Thompson’s capture, Luckett told 9News that she was glad he was behind bars.

“What he allegedly did, we will soon find out with the DNA and everything else,” she said at the time. “I think it’s better where he’s at. If he ran the first time, he would run again. I just want him to know I still love him and support him.”
