DENVER—Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper says wildfire victims will get aid through a new relief fund supported by efforts including concerts and donations through text messages.

Hickenlooper announced the creation of the Colorado Relief Fund 2012 on Thursday. He says individuals, foundations and corporations have already generated more than $600,000 for it. The Democratic governor says “Coloradans are at their best” during difficult times.

People can contribute through The Denver Foundation. Contributions will also be accepted by texting the word FIRE to 80000 to give $10 through the mGive Colorado Fire Fund. There will also be events with musicians including The Avett Brothers, Blues Traveler and Foster the People.

Hickenlooper says he is appointing a committee of executives to administer and distribute the funds.
