During July, the daily weather pattern in Denver is pretty consistent — a far cry from the variable weather experienced during most other months. Mornings in Denver will start out sunny, with clouds beginning to build by mid- to late afternoon. Thunderstorms also will develop at times over the foothills, and some of these storms reach Denver and surrounding areas.
Given ideal atmospheric conditions, these storms have the potential to become severe with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall possible. These thunderstorms also tend to be slow-moving, so the threat of flash flooding is higher. July is the stormiest month of the year in Denver, with storms occurring on 11 days out of the month, on average.
The latest forecast from the Climate Prediction Center is for above-normal temperatures and near-normal precipitation this month for Denver and much of northeastern Colorado. That means the record-shattering heat of late June looks to be a theme for much of July. Many more records may fall this month as well.
