GREELEY, Colo.—Greeley police shot and killed a man they say was holding a woman hostage in a basement apartment.

The Greeley Tribune reports ( ) police stormed the apartment Friday after trying to negotiate with the man for four hours. The woman was unharmed.

No names have been released. The gunman was 26 years old.

Police say the standoff began when the man saw officers approaching the apartment to arrest him on an outstanding warrant on charges of engaging in a riot, possession of a weapon by a previous offender and reckless endangerment. Investigators say the man called police dispatchers and threatened to kill the woman.

Police say the man fired a gun during the standoff. No injuries were reported.

Some neighbors were evacuated during the standoff.
