COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado Springs police have identified a man arrested on suspicion of impersonating a firefighter at the most destructive wildfire in Colorado history.
Police say 53-year-old Kip Andy Petersen was wearing firefighting clothing when police officers approached him within an evacuation area Wednesday. Police say Petersen falsely told officers he was a firefighter.
A phone number listed for Petersen and his family rang unanswered Monday.
Petersen is the second person accused of impersonating a firefighter at a major Colorado fire this year. Michael Maher is accused of impersonating a firefighter at the High Park fire in northern Colorado in June and the Lower North Fork fire west of Denver in March.
