Range finders have been around for years, and the discussion is ongoing about which is better for the average golfer: GPS or laser? Both work well as long as you know how far you hit each club in your bag. Without knowing how far you hit a given club, range finders don’t provide a lot of help.
Three that work very effectively are the Leupold GX-3i, the Bushnell Tour Z6 and the Laser Link Red Hot.
The Bushnell has tremendous range, upward of 1,300 yards. It also breaks yardages into fractions. The Leupold is perhaps the Rolls-Royce of range finders. With products extensively used by the military, Leupold provides excellent range with an all-business laser. Finally, the Laser Link Red Hot is the ticket if you are on a strict budget. It doesn’t have the detail of the other two, but it works well at about half of the price.
The Bushnell and the Leupold both retail for $499. The Laser Link Red Hot sells for $250.
— Find it: All three can be found at all major golf retailers.
