A 3-acre wildfire on U.S. Forest Service land in Douglas County will keep Waterton Canyon closed Friday, said Denver Water, which maintains Strontia Spring Reservoir there.
The fire was started by lightning Thursday afternoon and authorities expect to contain it by morning. Denver Water said the canyon would remain closed Friday to allow for fire operations.
The canyon is expected to reopen for the weekend.
Waterton Canyon has been as contractors removed sediment that had been accumulating since the Buffalo Creek fire in 1996 and the Hayman fire in 2002.
